Ebbsfleet picked up their second win of the season, as they defeated Boreham Wood 0-1 at Meadow Park.

The Fleet had drawn nine of their 11 matches prior to the match, and looked to be heading for a tenth draw of the campaign.

However, with just under 15 minutes remaining, Darren McQueen was brought down in the area by Dean Wells.

Danny Kedwell (77) then stepped up to blast the spot kick into the bottom right corner, sending his manager, and ex-Boreham Wood assistant, Daryl McMahon, home with three points on his return to Meadow Park.

It was the usual 3-5-2 formation for the Wood, with Dan Holman joining Bruno Andrade up top on his debut, there was also a return from injury for Kane Smith.

Holman nearly made an instant impact when he slipped Turgott through into the penalty area, the forward looked up, but slid the ball just shy of the post.

The Wood had started strongly, and their second chance came through an Andrade corner, Dave Stephens headed the ball back across the box and Tom Champion nodded it at goal, but Nathan Ashmore pushed it off the line.

Andrade followed this up with another corner, which was again met by the head of Stephens, but the centre-half sent it wide.

Replicating the earlier chance for Turgott, Keiran Murtagh threaded through Holman, but the forward struck it into the hands of Ashmore.

Andrade was rampant down the right and he cut inside before attempting to poke past Ashmore, but the the stopper saved.

Ebbsfleet were growing into the game as Danny Mills pulled the ball back across the box for Jack Powell, but he slid it wide.

Smith picked the ball up on the counter and charged forward, before firing an effort from 20 yards, but it was narrowly wide.

The visitor’s full-back then replicated Smith’s strike, Sam Magri crept up the right-hand side, picked up a loose ball and struck just over the crossbar.

Murtagh intercepted the ball in the middle of the park and set Turgott free, the forward cut inside, but fizzled a shot just wide.

The away side brought on Dean Rance and Kedwell at half-time as they looked to change the game. The latter met a lofted through ball in the area, but Champion was across to clip it away just before he pulled the trigger.

Powell’s late run into the box then met Luke Coulson’s cross, but he flashed it wide.

The Wood thought they had gone ahead just after the hour mark. Andrade’s strike was blocked from inside the area and Turgott’s second was saved, before Holman put it past Ashmore, but the Linesman disallowed the effort for offside.

The game changed with 15 minutes to go when Darren McQueen countered for Ebbsfleet, the winger found himself in-between Wells and Stephens and went to ground.

The referee pointed to the spot and Kedwell stepped up to blast it past Grant Smith in goal and claim the win for the Ebbsfleet.
