Every season the FA distributes a sum of money raised from the Community shield match between all of the teams who made the first-round proper of the FA Cup.
Each of the teams who are awarded this sum then donate the money towards a maximum of three community projects in the area.
Having made the first-round proper during the selected season, Boreham Wood have decided to donate their share of the money towards the Brookside Boys Club.
Over the years The Brookeside Boys Club have provided support for thousands of Borehamwood’s youngsters. They offer an environment that takes kids off the street and gives them the opportunity to socialise and participate in team and sport surroundings.
The Boys Club have produced a number of great sportsmen and teams throughout their history, including British Boxing Champions.
The club offer some fantastic facilities and classes, includes boxing lessons, circuit training sessions, an indoor basketball court and an outdoor five-a-side court.
They also have pool tables, table tennis tables, dart boards and a snooker table on-sight which provide the boys with a great environment to grow and mix with their friends.
Wood Chairman Danny Hunter commented, “The Boys Club was such an important part of my youth and I am not surprised to see them still be going strong after all these years. It is a testament to the work that they and all of the volunteers there do.
“After all they have done for Borehamwood, it is only right that we help them out and it is an honour to be in a position to do so.”
This is not the first time that Boreham Wood has donated its share of the funds to Brookside Boys and club Chairman Steve Clarke was as grateful as ever.
Clarke commented: “I can’t thank Boreham Wood FC enough. This is the third occasion that they have donated funds to the Club from the Community Shield fund. It is donations like these that keeps our great Club alive!
“We continue with our community Club for the youth, but additionally we have just started a community boxing group, too. So, the funds will certainly be put to good use.”
