On a day where ‘Wood’s’ First Team showed their class on the pitch with a comprehensive 3-0 victory against Arsenal’s new crop of young stars, ‘Wood’s’ Community Department enjoyed a hugely successful Community Day at Meadow Park also.
Boreham Wood’s Community Department teamed up with Arsenal Soccer Schools to host a free community training session prior to the showcase friendly against an Arsenal XI. BWFC and Arsenal Soccer Schools coaches welcomed over 80 children to the training session and they enjoyed a fun filled session full of skills practice and matches.
The participants were lucky enough to be paid a visit by legendary Arsenal mascot Gunnersauras who joined in the training sessions and was available for photo opportunities throughout the day.
To top it off 30 lucky participants were randomly selected and won the opportunity to take part in the ‘Arsenal XI matchday experience.’ These children were separated into 3 groups and were guard of honour flag bearers, Boreham Wood player escorts and Arsenal player escorts.
BWFC Community Manager Charlie Hunter commented “It was such a great occasion. It seemed like everyone who took part thoroughly enjoyed themselves and I can tell you the coaches did too! The atmosphere from the training session was replicated in the ground, giving the game a great sense of community spirit. It was great to see so many families in the stands enjoying their day out!
“I have to thank Ben at Arsenal Soccer Schools Hertfordshire and his coaches for being so supportive and helping us put on a great occasion. I have to also thank Arsenal and Gunnersauras for helping out on the day too, the children were chuffed to bits to see him and take photos with him too. All in all it was such a fantastic day and a great result too to top it all off.”
