Boreham Wood are delighted to announce that two of their Under 18’s players have successfully progressed to the final stage of the England Schoolboys trials after impressive performances at the South of England trials.

Sammy Doolan and Jake Knight will travel to Telford the weekend of Friday 30th November to Sunday 2nd December to compete amongst England’s best schoolboys players at Under 18 level for a place with the England Schoolboys national side.

Boreham Wood PASE Academy boast 7 players who have represented England at College level over the past 4 seasons, however Sammy and Jake, if selected, will join Lee Close to be the only Boreham Wood players to be selected for the English Schoolboy team. Lee Close made his Schoolboys international debut against The Republic of Ireland, in the Centenary Shield in Dublin. Lee played an influential part in England’s 3-2 victory, picking up the ‘Man Of The Match’ award.

Doolan, who has been ever present on the Boreham Wood First Team bench this season, already has international experience as he travelled with the English College U19 team last April for an international tournament in Italy, featuring against Romania and San Marino.

Academy Director, Luke Garrard, said “Sam and Jake have been showing great quality this season, both in training and on the pitch. They now have the opportunity to show that they are amongst the best Schoolboy players in the whole of England, and they should to grab this chance with both hands. I believe they can travel to Telford and give a good account of themselves in the South v North game, and hopefully they will return Monday morning as England internationals.” Garrard concluded.

Everyone at Boreham Wood wish Sammy and Jake the best of luck in their upcoming trials.
