Over 200 young players were in attendance at Meadow Park on Tuesday, for the first of six BW PASE Academy trials that will be held at Meadow Park.

They were all given an introductory talk by the Wood Chairman Danny Hunter and our first team manager Luke Garrard, about the pluses and minuses of what has become a well renowned Sports/Education programme.

This was followed by a facility, classroom and stadium tour, led by our PASE Manager Billy Hunter, before the Academy Director and all his coaching and medical team, put the boys through their paces on the training pitch.

Academy Manager Billy Hunter said “Todays trial was incredibly successful and to attract such large numbers, just shows everyone what a great reputation our Academy has built up over the last 15 years”

“We are also enjoying a hugely successful season, which helps and our progress across the board has included, beating Professional opposition in Northampton Town in the FA Youth Cup, while three of our Academy youngsters have earned first team contracts and, a further three have progressed into our first team squad.

“We also have in young Academy captain Ben Goodliffe, a player who has now made his full first team league debut. While three of our Academy have come through multiple trials, to appear for England Colleges on multiple occasions.

“Finally we are on course for half a dozen league titles, plus 6 or 7 cup finals and we have quietly reached the quarter finals of both the National cup competitions that we have entered into.”

“So the interest today was in truth what we expected and there was some very talented players on view. This is a very exciting time for these boys to join our Academy and the foundations are now in place for further Academy and first team success next season.”
