Boreham Wood FC is delighted to announce that BW PASE Academy player/student Luke Brophy has been selected as part of the full England College FA’s squad for the 2019/20 season.

After a series of regional trials, Luke had impressed the selection committee enough in order to be chosen to become a part of their squad and becomes the 27th Boreham Wood FC Academy player to become an international across both senior and youth international levels.

Luke joins the long list of Academy players who have played on the international stage, including former Watford and Rangers full back Lee Hodson, Rotherham United forward Kyle Vassell, current Wood CEO Charlie Hunter and First Team player Sorba Thomas, as well as existing Academy players Charlie Wickham and Hamza Semakula.

Academy Manager and First Team Coach Cameron Mawer commented “Luke’s a boy who has been with us for over 2 years now. He’s only a second year but he was part of our under 16 development group prior to joining the Academy on a full-time basis.

“He’s made great strides in all aspects of his game. On and off the pitch he’s everything you want in a player and a person. We are delighted that Luke will join the long list of names who represent England from our Academy.

“He’s now an England international and no one can ever take that away from him. He can tell his kids, Grandkids and Great Grandkids in many years to come. He can be very proud of himself. I hope this kicks him on to the next level, as it has done with so many in the past. Congratulation, Luke!”

Alongside his football commitments with the BW PASE Academy, Luke also couples a full-time education course with our education partners Barnet & Southgate College, namely a BTEC Level 3 Sports course. Luke’s tutor Katy Baden commented “Luke has kept his head down and worked hard in class and this is reflected in his grades as he has achieved a distinction in his first year and is on track to end his second year with a double distinction. Well done Luke, as a tutor group we are delighted for you!”

In addition to Katy’s comments, Curriculum Manager Nihaad Kapdi, who oversees all progress and development of all Boreham Wood FC/Barnet & Southgate College learners, said “Luke is a model student who has an excellent attendance record and is always striving to be a better student. We are delighted for Luke to have made the squad and he thoroughly deserves this great opportunity. Well done, Luke!”

Everyone involved in the BW PASE Academy, including Boreham Wood FC and education partners Barnet & Southgate College extend our huge congratulations to Luke and his family.
