DAVID STEPHENS

Boreham Wood Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of dominant centre half David Stephens, who is a free agent, after his departure from Barnet in the summer of 2015.

Stephens joined Norwich City as a 13 year old, and went on to sign his first professional contract in June 2009. He made his debut in the League cup victory over Gillingham that year. Stephens was then loaned out to Lincoln City for the remainder of the 2009-10 season.

In July 2010 after leaving Norwich City, Stephens signed a three year deal with SPL side Hibernian. Stephens went on to make 29 appearances for Hibs over two seasons before returning south and signing for League Two Barnet.

David then spent three seasons with Barnet making over 140 appearances and became a firm fans favourite with his committed displays. After suffering relegation to the Conference Premier in 2012-13, Stephens was at the heart of the Bees defence which saw the Bee’s promoted back into League two in 2014-15.

Stephens was also voted Barnet Supporters ‘player of the year’ in both 2012-13 and 2013-14 but In July 2015 he could not agree terms and rejected a new deal at Barnet to became a free agent.

On the arrival of David Stephens new Gaffer Luke Garrard said “We are trying to get the squad balanced and at a level that it can compete for 90 minutes in every game. David will give me that defensive balance through his strength, his discipline and his winners mentality but we have to get him fit first”..

“I will also look to complete one more bit of business next week, with perhaps one player coming in and one going out on loan? If I can achieve that, then barring injury or call backs, I’m then happy to work with this squad until January and give it the chance to impress and improve”.
