Grant Smith will partake in his second spell at Meadow Park as he signed for the Wood on a loan deal from Lincoln City in January 2020 until the end of the season.
Smith featured over 90 times for the Wood across a two-year period from 2016-2018 and was a vital member of Luke Garrard’s 2017/18 side which narrowly missed out on gaining Football League status when we finished 4th place in the league and then went on to lose in the play of final to Tranmere Rovers.
During that successful campaign, Smith made the National League Team of the Season, and his efforts were rewarded as he signed a deal with Lincoln City which meant he would in fact feature in League Two the following season.
Smith played youth football for Reading and Fulham before joining the development squad at Brighton & Hove Albion, agreeing a one-year contract in May 2013. He then went on to join Bognor Regis Town on loan in February 2014 before unfortunately being released by Brighton at the end of his contract a few months later.
Bognor Regis would then re-signed Smith on a permanent basis at the start of the 2015/16 campaign and he was ever present in the side that reached that impressively reached the semi-final of the FA Trophy. Smith was named the Fan’s Player of the Year and Bognor’s attempt to keep hold of the in-form man failed as he went on to sign for the Wood.
Despite signing for League Two outfit Lincoln City in June 2018 after his successful time at Meadow Park, he soon went on loan to Maidstone United where he featured just five times before being recalled, and then played the rest of the season for his parent club Lincoln in League Two.
