Josef kicked off his career within the youth ranks at Everton and Newcastle United, the latter included loan moves to Morecambe and Chesterfield. Yarney excelled during his spell at Chesterfield, earning a permanent move to the Spireites in 2019 and went on to play a key role in their 2020/21 National League play-off finish.
Following his time in Derbyshire, the centre-half embarked on a move abroad to Indian Super League, namely Punjab, before a successful 2022/23 campaign with Oldham Athletic, winning the Latic’s player of the season award.
His form was enough for League Two side Tranmere Rovers to demand his services in the summer of 2023, signing a one-year contract at Prenton Park. Following a year of playing back in the Football League, making 28 total appearances in Birkenhead, Josef would once again move abroad, this time to Hilal Al-Quds on a short-term deal, seeing him feature in the AFC Challenge League, before returning to England to join the Wood in January 2025.
