the pase academy

Boreham Wood PASE Academy is the youth development scheme of Boreham Wood Football Club. Boreham Wood are a senior Non-League Community Football Club who play in the Vanarama National League.

The Club has a rich history of success in Non-League football. We were one of the pioneering Clubs in creating a Football/Education Scheme for 16–19 year olds back in 2002, which we did with only sixteen boys, and since that time our PASE programme has become the largest and most successful scheme of its kind in the United Kingdom.

Boreham Wood FC PASE Academy History

When the Club first started its PASE Scheme (Programme for Academic and Sporting Excellence) our aim was simple. We wanted to stop talented young footballers from falling through the net, and give them a chance to progress their talent with top quality coaching.

More importantly, the Club felt that we could create an environment where our young scholars could continue their studies and achieve in higher education. We realised though, that for many of our young prospects, cost would be an issue. So we emphasise, unlike many other schemes that claim to be similar to ours, our scheme is ‘FREE’ to scholars besides a training kit fee, which is heavily subsidised.

PASE at Boreham Wood now runs its Sports/Education programme’s to an extremely high standard. Our coaches, coaching and facilities at the Club have developed and improved over the years. We have UEFA and FA licensed coaches and a full-time medical department who deal with player injury, rehabilitation, nutrition and are employed solely to look after you.

Our work force is also accompanied by first class training and match facilities, such as a 5th generation Astroturf, well maintained grass pitches and two fully-functional rehabilitation gyms over two training and education sites.

Our Medical department ensure that each and every scholar is fully insured and that they attend every training session and match. They will also look after and cater for all your physiotherapy needs, and give you all the expert help and advice you need.

Training is based on improving you as players in all aspects of the game, with sessions concentrating on a player’s technique, control and tactical awareness. This is then enhanced by our Sky Sports style smart boards in our study suites, which enable us to review matches and go through things tactically with our scholars.

This improves your understanding on things such as pattern of play and we believe that it makes the preparation and development of all our boys second to none, in comparison with other Football/Education scheme of our kind.

The PASE Scheme has grown since its creation in 2002, and we now have over 600 young scholars, who play their football here at Boreham Wood Football Club, as well as being educated with our education providers Barnet & Southgate College.

Our courses will range from one-to-three years in duration and there are three education sites in North London and South Hertfordshire, where our boys can study, including on site at BWFC.

The success seen at Boreham Wood Football Club in football and education terms is unparalleled in the Non-League game. To date we have over 250 boys from the scheme now playing semi-professional football within the non-league pyramid.

We’ve also had other boys playing in the professional football ranks at Clubs like West Ham United, Watford, Peterborough United, Notts County, Hull City, Luton Town, Wolverhampton Wanderers and many more. We have also had 23 boys represent England Schools and Colleges at various age groups, including a record five this year.

Boreham Wood’s PASE Scheme has not just become a dominant force in the South of England but also nationally, winning The National Conference and College Cups (second only to the FA Youth Cup in terms of prestige) and this is a target of ours each year. We are proud to say, we have recently won both of these prestigious trophies and reached the final on numerous occasions.

We also target and hope to reach the First and Second Round Proper of the FA Youth Cup each season. Presently we feel we have a particularly gifted group of young scholars, and we often compete in prestigious friendlies against sides from Reading, Leicester City, Watford, Peterborough, Brentford, Leyton Orient and Barnet, to name but a few.

The facts are though, that many of our boys will unfortunately not be good enough to make the cut as professional footballers. So we stress that they must enjoy their football, but also take their education and future very seriously, as education can be used in the wider world beyond your time with us at BWFC.

As an example of us following that policy, the PASE Scheme now has graduates who are continuing their education in the USA on ‘Soccer Scholarships’ all over America.

To date we have 18 players who have taken up their Scholarship offers in America at California, Washington D.C., Texas, Connecticut, and so on, with numerous boys now in the University system all across England.

This is a wonderful progression when you consider that many of our boys would have left school and not continued with their education. Our education providers really do work tremendously hard to allow this to happen and with their help and your hard work, it will provide you with a University level education, in a recognised course, that will allow you to progress to a top University.

The dramatic progression of Boreham Wood Football Clubs PASE scheme over the last decade has been truly remarkable. If you are interested in joining us here at Boreham Wood PASE Academy for the 2018/2019 season then please email: or call the PASE office on 020 8953 5716.
