HOME WIN AT LAST
Following four wins in a row on the road, Boreham Wood have finally won at home in the Vanarama National League. In a tightly fought contest, a second half own goal was enough to secure the three points for Wood.
Wood Manager Luke Garrard made one change from the 2-0 victory at Scunthorpe United last time out with David Stephens, replacing the injured Jamal Fyfield in the starting eleven.
First Half
Following an immaculately observed one minutes silence to mark the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II, it was the home side who made the early running with Lee Ndlovu going close after two minutes when his shot was deflected wide. After ten minutes Will Evans header was easily saved by Magpies keeper Dan Gyollai. A minutes later an excellent run and cross from Maidenhead’s Ashley Nathaniel-George created a chance for Charlee Adams who shot wide.
The visitors then started to grow into the game and on eighteen minutes, Ryan Upward’s shot was deflected wide by David Stephens. On the half hour, Boreham Wood had a golden opportunity to take the lead. Dennon Lewis was fouled in the penalty area, but the usually reliable Tyrone Marsh blazed his spot kick over the bar. For the rest of the first half, the Maidenhead centre back pairing off Alan Massey and Cole Kpekawa frustrated the Wood forward line who were unable to create anything else.
Second Half
The visitors started the second period in the ascendancy and for the most part, they controlled early possession. Koby Arthur went close for them on fifty minutes. On fifty-three minutes Luke Garrard replaced Marsh with Danny Elliot and it proved to be a masterstroke. A minute later, Elliot created a chance for Josh Rees whose effort was well saved by keeper Gyollai. Then, on fifty-six minutes the former Boston United striker caused havoc in the Magpies penalty area and force the Magpies into conceding an own goal which put Boreham Wood in front.
As Maidenhead were searching for their equaliser, the rest of the match was played very much in the Boreham Wood half. Upward and Kane Ferdinand went close for the visitors. Substitute Reece Smith then forced Nathan Ashmore into a good save. Elliot then went close for Boreham Wood. In truth, the visitors lacked the cutting edge to equalised and Boreham Wood held out comfortably in the end for three points.
It was tightly fought contest against a well organised Maidenhead side. Chances were at a premium for both sides, but the introduction of Danny Elliot gave Luke Garrard’s men the impetus they needed to win the game. Having finally got their home win, Luke Garrard will want to continue Boreham Wood’s 100% away record on the long trip to Gateshead on Saturday.
