Match Preview

Match preview: Worthing (A)

27 January 2025

Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s men travel down to West Sussex to face promotion rivals Worthing in the Vanarama National League South, kicking off at 19:45.

Last season for the Rebels

Worthing finished last season just one win away from a spot in the Vanarama National League. The Rebels made it to the playoff final after finishing third on 84 points and defeating Maidstone United 2-1 at The Sussex Transport Community Stadium. They faced Braintree Town in the final, who got the better of Worthing that day, defeating their opponents 4-3 with a winner in extra time.

Form guide

The Rebels are currently top of the form guide in the Vanarama National League South after winning four of their last five matches. The only match they didn’t win in this run came at home against Eastbourne Borough in a goalless draw.

Worthing then followed this with a 5-1 thrashing of fellow Vanarama National League South side Torquay United. A hat-trick from Mo Faal, along with goals from Joel Colbran and Danny Cashman, earned the Rebels a spot in the next round of the Isuzu FA Trophy. This run continued with wins over Weymouth, Chippenham, and Maidstone, which has seen the Rebels rise to third place in the Vanarama National League South.

Last time we met

Boreham Wood fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Worthing at Mangata Pay UK Stadium. Temi Babaloua’s first-half strike gave Worthing the lead despite Boreham Wood’s early pressure. Ndlovu equalised in the second half from a Cameron Coxe cross, but Danny Cashman’s late counterattack sealed victory for the visitors. Tyrone Marsh and Charles Clayden provided energy after half-time, but missed chances proved costly. Despite six minutes of stoppage time, Boreham Wood couldn’t find a leveller in an entertaining match.

One to watch

Danny Cashman has been the main man for the Rebels since signing from Coventry City in 2023. The silky attacker has recorded an impressive 13 goals and six assists in all competitions this season and will be looking to add to that tally tomorrow evening.

The Wood

Luke Garrard’s men will be looking to get back to winning ways after a 4-1 defeat in their previous outing against Chippenham Town. The Wood have been on a strong run of form in 2025, with wins over Slough Town, Weymouth, Hampton & Richmond, and Welling, which propelled Luke Garrard’s side to the top of the Vanarama National League South.

However, the Wood suffered a surprise defeat in their previous match against Chippenham Town. Jayden Richardson’s excellent equaliser was overshadowed by Tom Mehew’s opener and a brace from Luke Spokes, including a stunning free kick, before half-time. Caine Bradbury’s late strike sealed victory for Chippenham. The Wood struggled to capitalise on chances, with Abdul Abdulmalik hitting the crossbar late on in a frustrating performance.
