Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s men travel to Devon to face promotion-chasing Torquay United in the Vanarama National League South Playoff semi-finals, kicking off at 15:00.
Last season for the Gulls
Although Torquay United enjoyed a positive start to the season, which saw them second in December, their form declined towards the end. Along with a drop in performance, the club went into administration in April, resulting in an 11-point deduction. These setbacks led to an 18th-place finish in the Vanarama National League South, seven points clear of the relegation places.
Form Guide
The Gulls ended the regular season in remarkable form, narrowly missing out on the Vanarama National League South title by just two goals. Due to this impressive run, Torquay United finished second in the form guide, with five wins and just one defeat in their previous six outings, including a victory over champions Truro City.
In their most recent match, the Gulls ran out 4-1 winners away at Hemel Hempstead on the final day of the regular season. They completely dominated the Tudors at Vauxhall Road, with two goals either side of half-time securing a final three points heading into the play-offs.
Last Time We Met
A dramatic 98th-minute equaliser from Junior Dixon earned Wood a deserved point against promotion rivals Torquay United. The hosts struck early through Jordan Young and doubled their lead before half-time via Matt Jay, capitalising on Boreham Wood errors. Despite falling two behind, Wood dominated the second half, with Richardson and Sousa going close. Abdulmalik’s stunning long-range strike in the 82nd minute sparked belief, and deep into stoppage time, his brilliant run and cross set up Dixon for a dramatic leveller. Wood’s spirited comeback capped a dominant second-half showing, denying Torquay a win they had seemed certain to claim.
One to Watch
Wood will be hoping Jordan Young has a quiet afternoon tomorrow. Young has been a mainstay for the Gulls since joining in October 2024 from Yeovil Town. The skilful attacking midfielder has contributed 19 goal involvements this season and brings title-winning experience at this level, having been part of Yeovil Town’s league-winning squad last season.
The Wood
Luke Garrard’s side go into tomorrow afternoon’s clash full of confidence, having won our last six games. In that time, Wood have scored a colossal 21 goals, eight more than any other side in the Vanarama National League South, and nine more than Torquay United.
Wood completed an incredible comeback against Dorking Wanderers to set up tomorrow afternoon’s fixture. Although they led at the break, Dorking controlled much of the game and were 3-1 up by the 81st minute. However, a deflected strike from Abdul Abdulmalik, a near-post header from Cameron Coxe, and a last-minute volley from Femi Ilesanmi completed a remarkable comeback that will be remembered for years to come by Wood fans.
