Boreham Wood Reserves made in 9 straight wins to top the Suburban League North Division following their 2 – 4 victory at Newport Pagnell Town on Tuesday night.

A slow start from Wood almost saw them fall behind on a number of occasions however were spared by some quality defending and goalkeeping by Daniel Lewis. Wood then took the lead after 25 minutes when a pin point ball from Daniel Lewis found fell into the path of Edward Adjei who calmly slotted past the oncoming Newport Goalkeeper. The lead was however short lived when a defensive error saw Newport go clear to level before half time.

Newport started the second half very bright pressing high up the park which eventually forced a corner which was converted to give Newport Pagnell Town a deserved lead. Wood worked their way back into the game, piecing together some fluent passing moves which then lead to Woods equiliser in the 65th minute coming from Danny Green. Shortly after Wood retook the lead when Jon Clements latched onto a through ball and squared for Danny Green to pass into an empty net for his second of the night. Tiredness now a factor, Pagnell lost all momentum with Wood dominating play in the final stages of the game and finally confirmed 3 points in the dying minutes after Lancaster went clear of the Pagnell defence and draw back for an oncoming Clements to slot into the bottom corner.

Manager Ryan Kirby Said “I thrilled with the result tonight, the performance was not as soild as we have seen in previous weeks, however 3 point was the main objective tonight and we have achieved that. The boys have been working tremendously hard this season a more than deserve taking the top spot, we now have to keep focus and maintain the level of performance we have set ourselves if we want to stay there”.
