Boreham Wood put in a faultless performance to come away with a dominating 4-0 win at Maidstone United.

Kane Smith had put the visitors in front, as early as the 13th minute, lobbing Maidstone stopper Lee Worgan.

Dan Holman (40,53) then netted a brace, with goals either side of halftime, before Blair Turgott (77) wrapped up the scoring with a penalty, less than 15 minutes from time.

It was the Wood’s third clean sheet in as many matches, following goalless draws against Macclesfield and Hartlepool.

Holman and Shaun Jeffers led the line in the absence of Bruno Andrade, with Turgott sitting behind the duo. Danny Woodards, Dean Wells and Dave Stephens then made up a tight back three.

The first chance of the match fell to the hosts, but Joe Pigott headed wide from a corner.

Holman was looking sharp from the off, with two early chances. The on-loan forward beat his marker on the right-hand side and curled an effort at Worgan, who held.

Minutes later, he cut inside and thrashed a chance at the Maidstone goal and this time, Worgan could only push wide.

The ball was recycled before it went out of play and Smith drove it from distance, but his shot sailed narrowly over the woodwork.

The wing-back then broke the deadlock with a cross-cum-shot inside 15 minutes, Smith flung the ball from the right wing and it caught Worgan off guard, curling sweetly into the top left corner.

The ball was then in the back of the net again, after deflecting off the chest of Holman, but he was pulled back for offside.

Maidstone were looking to haul themselves back into the game and a powerful delivery from Lewis looked to be heading for a Maidstone boot, but it was blasted clear by the Wood defence.

Blair Turgott had looked lively in the opening exchanges and blasted an effort from 20-yards that Worgan barely managed to push wide.

Holman then doubled the lead, with just five first half minutes remaining. A poor touch from Reece Prestedge saw the ball fall for Holman, who struck past Worgan on the turn.

Still searching for an opening goal themselves, Joe Anderson curled an effort from the left-wing, that looped over Smith, but also the crossbar.

An interchange of passes on the right between Turgott & Smith saw the ball lofted into the box, but it was narrowly over both Holman and Jeffers.

The Wood had a third of the night following some stunning play between Jeffers and Holman. Jeffers took a long ball down on his chest and on the turn, beautifully lofted it over the home defence for Holman to latch on to. The striker was never going to miss and he took a touch before thumping past Worgan.

Looking to get his own name on the scoresheet, Jeffers found himself through on goal after a mistake from the Stones defence, but they were able to recover and block his attempt.

The ball was then recycled and fell to Ricky Shakes, but the ‘keeper held his driven attempt.

Along with the rest of the 11, Holman was at the very top of his game and glided past two defenders before teeing off Turgott, but his subsequent strike was narrowly wide.

Still desperate to claw their way back into the match, Zavon Hines pumped a strike at Smith, on the bounce, but the stopper pushed wide with his fingertips.

Turgott let the ball roll across his body and darted it at goal, but it was pushed wide by Worgan once again.

Stephens thought that he had gotten his side’s fourth after getting a touch on Murtagh’s corner, but Worgan was able to punch it awkwardly over the bar.

With just under 15 minutes remaining, Turgott broke into the area and was hauled down by his marker, with the referee pointing straight to the spot.

The attacking midfielder stepped up and drove it confidently into the bottom left to all but confirm the three points.
