Angelo Balanta

Boreham Wood Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of ex QPR forward Angelo Balanta, after he impressed gaffer Luke Garrard whilst on trial at the club..

Primarily a forward, Balanta can also operate down either side if required. This of course does offer further flexibility to Luke Garrards already adaptable squad.

Balanta who was Born in Colombia, moved to England and joined the QPR Academy as a 17 year old, where he progressed through the age groups before breaking into the first team as a teenager in 2007.

He made his first team debut as a substitute in December 2007 and made his first ever start for the club later on that month. In November 2008 as part of his development, Balanta joined league two side Wycombe Wanderers on a three months loan deal..

A further loan In June 2010 followed, as he joined MK Dons at Division one level for a season. In his time at MK Dons, Angelo bagged 11 goals in 50 games and was highly thought of by the MK Dons supporters..

In July 2014 and after a further loan at Yoevil, Angelo was released by Rangers after seven years with the club. In his time at QPR he made in total 25 league appearances in the Premiership and Championship scoring twice..

Since leaving QPR, Angelo has played his football at both Bristol Rovers and Carlisle United before trialling with us here at Boreham Wood..

On signing the Colombian forward Gaffer Luke Garrard said. “Angelo is a good age at 26 and has experienced both success and failure as a professional footballer. I’m certainly not taking him to make up the numbers and I’m not taking him to play down the sides either. I’m taking him too play up top, he’ll be competing with two other forwards and he’ll be judged on his work rate, attitude and of course his goals”..

“Angelo knows he needs to kick start his career here at Meadow Park, as he’s not a wonder kid any longer and he must show me he has the desire to succeed everyday as nobody can question his ability”..

“We have great dressing room spirit already and Angelo has fitted in great with the group. He already knows Bruno Andrade from his time at QPR, he did well on Tuesday night against Stevenage in a system I favour and I want to give him a chance to impress us all”.. Garrard concluded.
