Before Saturdays League fixture Vs Guiseley, Boreham Wood FC’s Community Department hosted an inclusive football tournament, which provides playing opportunities for children and young people with disabilities.

Boreham Wood FC welcomed a number of Hertfordshire teams to participate on the day that included, Bedwell Rangers, Everett Rovers, London Colney Colts & Cougars and St Albans City Youth.

The football part of the day was a great success with parent’s, sibling, family and carers cheering on from the sidelines during the tournament matches, making it an exciting competition for everyone involved.

Every player then entered the stadium and were invited onto the pitch to take part in a guard of honour as the teams came out before kick off, then took their seats ready to watch, which for many of the participants, was their first National League fixture.

To make the day even more memorable, at half time every team was brought onto the pitch to receive their medals of participation, followed by the tournament winners, Bedwell Rangers and St Albans City Youth being presented with their winners trophies, and cheered on by the Boreham Wood and Guiseley supporters.

Community Manager Ken Headington said “This was a fantastic event to host, one we have never done before, which is really exciting for our Community Department. The majority of the young players and several of the coaches either have learning difficulties or a physical disability, and events like this really make a huge difference to the individuals, to walk out onto the pitch at a stadium and have hundreds of fans cheering them on is something they could of only dreamed, but this has now become a reality for them and one they will remember for many years to come.”

The families, coaches and managers all had an enjoyable, exciting and memorable day.

Steve Ward manager with St Albans City Youth said “The St Albans City Youth Players, Coaches and families had a great day. One of the players enjoyed the match so much he persuaded his Granddad to take to see the Lincoln Match.”

Geri Harvey from London Colney said “We would just like to say how much our players thoroughly enjoyed the day on Saturday and they cannot wait for the next one.”
