DOVER SNATCH LATE DRAW

The Skrill South

Boreham Wood    2    Dover Athletic    2

by John D. Gill

Boreham Wood included eighteen year old Junior Morias, a Loan signing from Wycombe Wanderers, in the starting line-up for his First Team debut.

Wood attacked from the kick off and Mario Noto had a shot cleared off the goal line by Terrell Forbes in only the second minute.     Soon afterwards an Austin Lipman cross shot was pushed clear at the far post by Dover ‘keeper Mitchell Walker.

Midway through the first half Graeme Montgomery tested Walker with a long range shot.    However, it was the visitors who surprisingly took a  0 – 1 lead after twenty-three minutes.    A foul on Liam Bellamy resulted in a Barry Cogan free kick being saved by James Russell, but the ball was dropped and Jeff Goulding was on hand to score from close range.

Meanwhile at the other end a foul on Sam Cox saw Austin Lipman’s free kick punched clear by Walker.    Then Walker blocked a shot from Mario Noto.    Wood kept the pressure on Dover and Chris Kinnear Jnr. fouled Luke Garrard.    Another Lipman free kick found Callum Reynolds but his header just cleared the crossbar.    Then seconds before half time a Mario Noto cross was headed just over by Skipper Charlie O’Loughlin.

Dover’s Tom Murphy ran clear at the start of the second half and with only Russell to beat shot hopelessly high over the crossbar from just inside the penalty area.    The game then continued in torrential rain and a swirling wind, which assisted Wood with their equalizing goal after fifty-five minutes.    Graeme Montgomery curled a free kick towards the goal, and defender Terrell Forbes glanced a header past his own ‘keeper.

Two minutes later Graeme Montgomery got the better of defender Craig Stone and sent a thirty yard shot past Walker and into the net off the far post.    Wood were 2 – 1 ahead and deservedly so!

Wood now began to take control of the game, but Dover never gave up and with ten minutes remaining Mark Jones was adjudged to have fouled Sean Raggett in the penalty area.    The Referee pointed to the spot and Jeff Goulding made no mistake with his penalty kick.    2 – 2 and a share of the points for Dover Athletic.

Both teams battled for a late winner, but the result ended as a draw.
