The games keep coming after the wet winter with most teams finally feeling the pain of playing three games a week.

On Saturday Wood Boss Ian Allinson left Lee Angol and Graeme Montgomery on the bench in the goal less draw with Dover Athletic. He explained, “ They have both been playing constantly and Lee picked up a knock in Tuesday’s game, yet played another 90 minutes for me two days later. These are players I would love to start and you saw by their response when they came on that they are integral players. We had chances to win against Dover and it is remarkable to think a win would have put us nine points off the play off’s. We are on a great run of form at the moment and had we managed that in December we would have been in with a shout.”

Our next opponents are just seven points off top spot, with a ten point cushion between themselves and fifth spot. They are a side that have improved steadily over the last three seasons and look strong contenders for promotion, via the play off’s at least. Their current form is commendable having gone unbeaten for fourteen games since the start of the year in the league. It was mid December since they lost at Gander Green Lane, yet they have only managed to draw their last three games. It will be a very tough challenge for the boys, but with an unbeaten run of six games and the thought of only having to play twice this week, let us hope the boys find the energy to give it a real go!
