Sunday Service!

Wood fans are urged to turn out in numbers this coming Sunday as we host the pre-season title favourites Ebbsfleet United.

This has been a tie Manager Ian Allinson and the squad have been looking forward to since the start of the season.

The Fleet have undergone several transformations since relegation from the Conference National where they spent two seasons from August 2011. At the start of last season a managerial change resulted in the appointment of Steve Brown a former coach at Dover Athletic. He shipped eight of his former players in and the team made it through to the play off semi finals after finishing fourth in the table. It was a bitter pill to swallow when Dover Athletic, who actually finished fifth, took the second promotion spot.

Onto this season and with his side sitting fourth in the table Brown was relieved of his position, with the Kuwaiti owners appointing Jamie Day to take charge earlier this month. The ex Welling United player manager has all the credentials to get out of this league having previously done so at his former club.

It is the likes of Welling United’s ability to survive at Conference National level that gives unfancied sides like ourselves the impetus to succeed.

Ebbsfleet at the time of writing are fifth in the table, ten points behind us with a game in hand. Their downfall this season has been the opposite of ours, their home form. Away from home they are second in the current form table with an impressive run of eight matches unbeaten. They even needed to go away to overcome Welling United in the last round of the F A Trophy after a draw at home!
Recent results on the road in the League are impressive. Their last outing resulted in a 5-1 win at Chelmsford City, which preceded a 4-0 win at Maidenhead United.

We welcome back Daryl McMahon who was a former player before departing for Eastleigh. He joined the Fleet from Dover Athletic.

In our last home game with Bishops Stortford we hit a milestone scoring our 50th League goal of the campaign to date. The player to achieve that feat was the current League leading scorer Lee Angol, who scored his first ever goal in a Wood shirt at home to Ebbsfleet United last season, which we won 2-1. I am sure The Gaffer would take that right now!

It promises to be a fantastic afternoon and the more Wood fans who can turn out to cheer on the side the better!

Happy New Year to The Wood Army!

Boreham Wood v Ebbsfleet United. Sunday January 4th, kick off 3pm.
