CHELMSFORD AWAY

Having led the Conference South League for so long, we finally learnt on Saturday that we had came up just short in our efforts to achieve automatic promotion.

So with our title ambitions gone, we as a club must firstly congratulate the new league champions Bromley on a job well done, move on and focus on what we must do to achieve our own promotion dreams.

With that in mind, we wish to take our supporters through the ramifications of how things could pan out if we finish second in the league and why our final game on Saturday at Chelmsford City really is so important..

Put simply, we at present sit second in the league two points above both Havant and Basingstoke and three points above Whitehawk but with a much better goal difference than all three. Having led this league for so long, perhaps runner up would be the very least we think we deserve but we all know, what you deserve and what you receive in football are two different things.

So we must now go to Chelmsford with confidence and ensure we get the win or the draw to give us the runner up spot. A positive result of any kind will guarantee us second place and second place will guarantee us what could well be a crucial home advantage, in the second leg of the play off semi final.

If we are successful in the two legged semi final, that will give us home advantage in a winner take all ‘Cup Final’ game at home at Meadow Park.. With the winner of that game taking their place in the Conference National League for the first time ever.

So we need to concentrate on firstly getting the result at Chelmsford this Saturday and only then can we prepare and focus on the first play off semi final game, which at present would be away at Whitehawk the following Wednesday.

Your support is key on Saturday, it has been hugely appreciated this season but you will now be needed more than ever. We have really enjoyed ourselves but it’s now about winners and who wants to fail at this stage, certainly not us.

It’s now time to re focus and look forward, on Saturday we will all know what is required and who we’ll face. Please help us to achieve promotion and make this a season to remember for us all.

Thanks again and see you all at Chelmsford.
