Boreham Wood Football Club are delighted to announce that Wood Club Captain Joe Devera, has penned a 12 month extension to his current contract.

Joe began his career at neighbours Barnet and came up through their youth system before breaking into their first team in 2006/07 season. He soon established himself at right back and went on to make 177 appearances over a six year period for the Bees.

In 2011 Devera became Paolo Di Canio’s first signing as Swindon Town Manager. He was a part of the Swindon Town side that won promotion to league one. The following season the Robins made the league one play-offs only to lose out to Brentford on penalties. This was however Deveras last game for Swindon after making 66 appearances.

After his release from the Robins he signed a two year deal with Portsmouth, where he was used as both a centre back and right back. After 72 appearances his contract was not renewed and he left Fratton park in the summer of 2015. Joe joined us here at Meadow Park soon after and was part of a defensive back line, that ensured we kept our National League status last season.

This season Joe has been an instrumental part of what is presently, the third best defensive unit in the division, just behind two of the bigger sides who are chasing promotion.

On getting Joe signed for a further 12 months Wood Gaffer Luke Garrard said “It’s important to get your big players sorted early, and Joe is of course also my club captain. He’s someone I know I can rely on, he’s experienced, has a big voice within the group and has become an influential member of my dressing room. By getting him signed, I’ve now added another member of a fantastic defensive unit, to our squad for next season. I’m now more than comfortable, that I’ll get another one or two of the lads sorted out in the coming weeks, as we look to establish ourselves in this division again next season”
