This Tuesday Wood stage their fourth prestigious Pre-Season Friendly match when Uwe Rossler returns to the scene of his side’s F.A. Challenge Cup First Round win with his West London First Division side.

After suffering the heartbreak of missing out on automatic promotion in possibly the most thrilling match of last Season in England, when Doncaster Rovers needing just a point to claim the League title were getting into a celebratory mood at Griffin Park with the scores at 0 – 0. Then in the ninety-fourth minute Brentford were awarded a penalty, giving them the chance of all three points and thus automatic promotion. What happened next will go down in football folklore history. Marcello Totta smacked his effort against the crossbar, Rovers broke and snatched a late late winner that sent them up and The Bees into the Play-offs.

Yeovil Town then upset the odds to beat The Bees 2 – 1 at Wembley after Rossler’s men had won through to the Final on penalties against Swindon Town.

Both Brentford and Wood have just completed tough games with the Wood hosting an Arsenal X1, beating their illustrious neighbours for the first time ever 3 – 0 with a fine performance. Scottish Champions Celtic were the visitors to Griffin Park with our visitors narrowly losing out 1 – 2 in front of over 8,000 fans.

The Bees have just one more Pre-Season game after this, when they host Premiership new boys Cardiff City as their League programme commences on 3 August with a trip to Port Vale. To date they have beaten Millwall 3 – 0 after a Pre-Season tour to the old East Germany. There they pitted their wits against fifth tier Einheit Rudolstadt, winning 0 – 3 in front of 200 Supporters, before a tough 1 – 1 draw with Third Division F.C. Rot-Weiss Erfurt.

It promises to be a fine evening’s entertainment after which both Managers will be hoping that their respective sides are looking sharp and ready to compete this coming Season.

Boreham Wood versus Brentford, Tuesday 23rd July, Kick Off: 7.30pm.
