Boreham Wood produced FA Cup magic as they beat a Football League side for the first time in their 70-year history and knocked Blackpool out of the cup 2-1.
Two weeks on from our Club Founder and Club President Bill O’Neill’s birthday, Luke Garrard’s side finally took a Football League scalp.
The Wood had to come from behind, as Blackpool went ahead in the 62nd minute, through Danny Philliskirk.
However, a double substitution from Luke Garrard turned the table on the League One side, as Blair Turgott (67) and Dan Holman (87) both came on to score.
The Wood remained in their usual 3-5-2 formation for the high-profile clash and Tom Champion slipped back into the defensive three.
Callum Cooke had the first chance of the match for Blackpool, but he slid the ball past the post.
Dave Stephens put in a man of the match performance, and he almost set up Shaun Jeffers at the start of the game. The centre-back headed on Smith’s long free kick, but Jeffers couldn’t beat his man to reach it.
Jeffers then found himself in the away area again and he twisted and turned, but twice saw his shots blocked.
Smith then saved the Wood from a certain goal, Cooke had countered for Blackpool and was through on goal, but the stopper made a vital left footed save.
Bruno Andrade has already scored from set-pieces this season and looked to add another to his tally, but his curled effort was saved by Allsop.
Stephens made himself a danger in the box again, he leapt highest at a corner and nodded just wide of the post.
Mark Ricketts tried his luck from range, but his drilled effort brushed wide.
Cooke had already seen two efforts go missing, but was determined to finally score when he was released in on goal by his midfield, but his strike clashed against the post and out.
The Tangerines went ahead in the 62nd minute, as Danny Philliskirk beat his marker and latched onto a well-timed through ball, before slotting past Grant Smith in the Boreham Wood goal.
This prompted Wood manager Garrard to make a double substitution with Turgott and Holman both entering the field.
It wasn’t long before the pair had an impact; Turgott broke into the area and Kane Smith darted down the right-wing with the ball; Smith pulled it back into the box for him to thrash home.
Back on level terms, the Wood pushed on. Andrade drove a free kick into the hands of Allsop and Smith then crossed low into the box, but Holman as unable to flick past the stopper.
Holman was causing the away side problems and nearly got his goal after cutting inside on his left foot, but he curled his shot into the hands of Allsop.
Still pushing for the winner, Andrade thumped a free kick against the away wall; the ball rebounded back to him, but his strike was blocked for a corner
The Wood finally got the winner their efforts deserved with just three minutes remaining and the buoyant Wood Army faithful poured onto the pitch.
Andrade’s corner was headed across the box by Stephens and Dan Holman snuck in to poke the ball past Ryan Allsop.
The home supporters had been incredible all match and refused to contain their excitement as they rushed onto the Meadow Park pitch.
