Boreham Wood are pleased to announce yet another successful week for its Academy boys on the football pitch.

On Saturday, 20th August a youthful ‘Wood’ reserve side took the field in their opening Suburban Premier Reserve League fixture at home to Farnborough FC. ‘The Wood’ played out a convincing 3-0 victory with goals from debutants Dan Loveday (2) and Callum Martin.  The reserves travel to Eastbourne Borough this weekend, looking to continue on from their win on Saturday and Suburban Northern League title of last season.

Both ‘Wood’ under 18’s and under 19’s took the field on Wednesday, 24th August against extremely strong and respected opposition, Blue Square South Chelmsford City under 18’s and Npower Championship Reading FC youth team respectively.

Boreham Wood’s under 18’s beat a well organised Chelmsford City in their final pre season friendly before their Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League kicks off next week. Goals from Harvey Scott-Morris, Dean Rubinia, Oscar and Karl Brown sealed a 4-0 victory.

Reading FC invited our under 19’s this week to play in a friendly fixture at their impressive training ground in Berkshire. A ‘Wood’ side including players from last season’s under 19 ECFA National Cup winning side, as well as players from the successful under 18 double winners battled out an elusive 3-2 win. Goals from Simeon Akinola (2) and Tony Walker, who have both featured heavily with our first team this pre season, secured ‘Wood’ its underdog victory.

Luke Garrard, Head Academy Coach, said ‘It shows the progress the boys are making. Not only over their two/three years with us, but also just over this pre season. We took a side to Reading earlier in the summer and were over powered 4-1, however 4 weeks down the line we return and win 3-2. I am very pleased.’
