Boreham Wood Football Club are delighted to announce the capture of Jamie Turley from Newport County on a season-long loan deal.

Turley joined the League Two side in July 2016 from Eastleigh, making his League debut in a 3-2 loss to Mansfield Town.

Turley began his career with Wycombe Wanderers but left without making a senior appearance, and has fought his way back up the divisions.

The 27-year-old has over 170 non-league appearances, having previously played for both Salisbury City and Forest Green.

After a period on trial at Bristol Rovers, the experienced centre-half joined Eastleigh, where he would play nearly 50 times before being snapped up by League Two Newport County.

On signing, Turley commented: “I am really excited and I am really looking forward to getting going. Boreham Wood are an ambitious club, with an ambitious manager and it ticked a lot of boxes for me.

“I believe that I can bring pace and power to the side, and I know the league very well because I have spent a lot of time there.

“I just want to get back out there playing and I can hopefully do well enough to get selected, because I haven’t got a right to go straight into the team.”

Turley displayed his leadership qualities at international level for the England C team, where he captained the side to the semi-final of the International Challenge Trophy, eventually succumbing to a 1-0 loss to Turkey.

In February 2013, the 27-year-old was named as England C Player of the Year, following his impressive displays for the national side.

Turley’s 2016/17 campaign was disrupted by injury, but he says that having spent a season in the Football League, he is desperate to help Boreham Wood fight for a place in the division.

“I obviously haven’t trained yet, but this seems like a very good group and if everyone can pull in the same direction then we can have a successful season.

“Having now played in the Football League, it has given me the hunger to get back to the division.

“I have had a taste for it now, I want to be in the Football League. I started the first six or seven games before I needed the operation and now I want to earn a place back in the division.”

Boreham Wood manager Luke Garrard says that he is very happy to get his man.

“He is a very experienced centre half at this level, he has 150 odd games under his belt from the likes of Forest Green and Eastleigh, it was a great fit for the club,” Garrard declared.

“He brings with him a wealth of experience, he is accustomed to the system and the shape that we want to play and that will be big for the club.

“The timing of the deal is perfect, because it gives us a couple days before the start of the season to bring him up to speed with what we are doing.

“I remember how powerful and fast he was for Eastleigh, he will add another dimension to the team and he will allow us play the football that we want to play.”
